Rowe Scores Career-High; Choctaws Edged at Trevecca

NASHVILLE --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team rallied at Trevecca Nazarene University, but fell 56-51 in Gulf South Conference on Monday, Jan. 13. MC moved to 9-7 on the season and 5-5 in league play.

Alexis Rowe paced MC with a career-high 24 points. Rowe's previous high was 11 points set against Belhaven University on Nov. 14, 2024 and matched one month later vs. Montevallo. It is the sixth 20-point performance this season by a Choctaw as the Little Rock, Ark., product joins Tiara Abron and Tytiana Buckley, who have combined for five of the efforts. Rowe also paced the squad with seven rebounds.

Nia Coleman joined Rowe in double figures as she totaled 11 points. It is the third game with 10-plus points this season for the San Roman, Calif., native and the 12th of her career. It is her first since Dec. 14 against Montevallo.

The Choctaws, who trailed by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter, narrowed the gap to one possession, but couldn't overcome deficit in their first contest with the Trojans. The Blue and Gold used a 13-4 run to cut into the margin, but TNU scored five of the next seven points to secure its second conference victory of the season.

The Trojans doubled up the Blue and Gold in the opening quarter and held a 30-23 advantage at the intermission despite being outscored in the second stanza. The Purple and White held its largest lead of the game during the quarter, 28-15. MC clipped the lead to single digits, but a late charge over the final two minutes of the third quarter extended the margin back to double digits heading into the last 10 minutes of action.

Tatum Shaw and Amaya Thomas led the Trojans in scoring with 18 and 14 points respectively.

Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 18 as it travels to Cleveland, Miss., for a GSC contest against in-state foe, Delta State University. Tip from Walter Sillers Coliseum is 2 p.m.
