BOCA RATON, Fla. – #13 Mississippi College's men's soccer team mounted a valiant comeback effort after trailing 3-0 but ultimately fell short in a 3-2 defeat to No. 4 Lynn University in a top-15 national clash on Sunday. The match, which began at 11 a.m. CT, saw a lengthy weather delay due to lightning just before halftime, with play resuming at 6 p.m.
Lynn (3-0-0) took control early in the first half when Henry Haferkorn netted the opening goal in the 16th minute, assisted by Fabio Menzel. The Choctaws (2-1-1) faced further setbacks early in the second half, with Lynn extending their lead to 3-0 thanks to goals from Fabian Vyhnalek in the 47th minute and Max Lambertz in the 49th minute.
Mississippi College responded with determination, reducing the deficit in the 71st minute when Alvaro Pena scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Gage Sorey. Just four minutes later, Lewis Matton struck his fifth goal of the season, narrowing the gap to 3-2 with an assist from Luke Fanstone.
Despite the late surge, Lynn's defense held firm, and the Choctaws were unable to find the equalizer in the final moments of the match.
Mississippi College outshot Lynn 14-11, with seven of their attempts on target. Lynn's goalkeeper made four crucial saves to secure the victory.
The Choctaws will look to bounce back as they continue their season on the road on Friday at West Florida.
