CLINTON, Miss. – The No. 7 Lady Choctaws remained unbeaten on the season, securing a 4-2 victory over Texas A&M International on Wednesday afternoon at Robert P. Longabaugh Field. The win moves the Lady Choctaws to 3-0 on the year, while Texas A&M International falls to 0-2-1.
Mississippi College came out on fire, with Eduarda Silva finding the back of the net just 24 seconds into the match, assisted by
Karah Boydstun. Less than a minute later, the Lady Choctaws doubled their lead when
Madison Leber scored at the 47-second mark, also assisted by Boydstun.
Silva continued her dominant play with her second goal of the game in the 11th minute, set up by
Margherita Giubilato. Giubilato then got in on the scoring action herself in the 19th minute, scoring MC's fourth and final goal off an assist from Silva.
Texas A&M International managed to pull a goal back late in the first half through Gabriela Mendez-Ortiz at the 36-minute mark. In the second half, the Dustdevils cut further into the lead with a goal by Janize Castillo in the 72nd minute, but it wasn't enough as Mississippi College held on for the 4-2 victory.
MC dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Texas A&M International 18-3, with 15 of those shots on target. The Lady Choctaws' aggressive play resulted in 11 saves for the Dustdevils' goalkeeper Gabriela Mendez-Ortiz.
Eduarda Silva led the way for the Lady Choctaws with two goals and an assist, while
Karah Boydstun contributed two assists.
Margherita Giubilato finished with a goal and an assist.
