MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- Mississippi College's softball team faced a tough challenge on Tuesday, falling 14-1 to Auburn Montgomery in the NCAA South Super Regional at the AUM Softball Complex. The game was decided early as AUM unleashed a 14-run first inning that proved tough for the Lady Choctaws.
Mississippi College (48-8) struggled from the outset. Starting pitcher
Camryn Bailey (26-5) was unable to record an out, conceding three runs before being relieved.
Brookelyn Cannon and
Madison Jenkins followed in an attempt to stem the tide but found little success against a relentless AUM offense.
The Warhawks (45-12) started the game strong, with Hayley Frank opening the scoring with an RBI single. C. Derrick's three-RBI double and subsequent hits from H. Frank and R. Komers propelled AUM to an overwhelming 14-0 lead by the end of the first inning.
Mississippi College managed to put a run on the board in the fourth inning.
Shelby Samples singled and later scored on a hit by
Ashley Lightcap, offering a glimmer of hope. However, AUM's pitcher A. Goble (20-3) kept the Lady Choctaws largely in check, allowing just four hits and one run over five innings.
MC and AUM return to action tomorrow at 12 p.m. at the AUM Softball Complex in Montgomery, Ala. for game two of the Super Regional.
