CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College's #13 ranked softball squad pulled off an epic comeback to secure a sensational sweep against Valdosta State at the MC Softball Complex on April 7th. With a stellar record of 31-6, the Choctaws outshone Valdosta State (22-17) in a thrilling showdown that had fans on the edge of their seats.
The game started off with a bang for the Choctaws, as Emilly Rigney's single set the stage for Mississippi College to take an early lead. However, Valdosta State came back swinging in the third inning, scoring their first run with a five-run surge powered by a homer from Morgan Hill and Asniston Gano.
Valdosta State continued their dominance in the fourth inning with yet another homer, this time from Jamin Stewart, extending their lead to a daunting 6-0. But the Choctaws refused to back down. In a remarkable display of resilience, they stormed back in the sixth inning, scoring four runs on just two hits. Jordan Lafosse stole the spotlight with a clutch two-run homer, reigniting hopes for a comeback victory.
But the drama didn't end there. In the seventh inning, Madison Jenkins stepped up to the plate and delivered a game-tying homer with just one pitch, evening the score at 6-6.
In a thrilling bout, Ashley Lightcap landed the decisive blow to Valdosta, delivering a knockout punch with a game-winning single to center. Bailee Avants swiftly dashed home, sealing the victory. With a nail-biting 7-6 win over Valdosta State in extra innings, the Choctaws sent fans into a ringside frenzy.
Emily Rigney stood out with four hits and one RBI, while Jordan LaFosse contributed one hit and two RBI to the Choctaws' impressive comeback victory, supported by a total of 11 hits from the team.
Madison Jenkins delivered a stellar performance, entering the seventh inning to secure four key strikeouts without allowing a hit.
