Lady Choctaws Grab Series From Valdosta State, Sweeping Saturday Doubleheader

CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College clinched a doubleheader sweep over Valdosta State, prevailing with a final score of 7-5 in game one before delivering a 12-4 win in game two. Mississippi College struck first in the opening inning when Jordan LaFosse scored following McCall Lee's groundout.

Their lead was bolstered in the 3rd inning courtesy of Kam Eaton's single to left field, bringing home LaFosse. VSU's Prandine's homered to left center drove in three runs, including one unearned, leveling the score. Yet, Mississippi College responded in the bottom of the 4th inning as Jordan Moore's single brought in a run. Momentum swung in Mississippi College's favor in the 5th inning when Ashley Lightcap's single and a defensive miscue by Valdosta State resulted in two more runs.

Valdosta State attempted a rally in the 6th inning, as Seber's two-RBI single narrowed the gap to just one run. However, Mississippi College held strong, adding insurance with Emily Rigney capitalizing on an error to extend their lead. MC went on to claim the win by a final of 7-5.

Mississippi College accumulated a total of 10 hits throughout the game with Shelby Samples leading the way with three hits. Camryn Bailey delivered an outstanding performance in the circle, earning the win to improve her overall record to 17-3 for the season after earning 13 strikeouts.

In game two of the doubleheader, Mississippi College secured a 12-4 victory over Valdosta State. The scoring commenced in the third inning when Valdosta State's Bogart launched a homer to right center, bringing in two runs. Mississippi College quickly responded in the bottom of the third with Emily Rigney reaching on a fielder's choice, driving in Jordan Moore. Momentum swung further in Mississippi College's favor as McCall Lee singled to right field, bringing in two more runs.

Valdosta State attempted to close the gap in the fourth inning with Seber's triple to right field, driving in a run. However, Mississippi College continued to add to their lead with a series of runs. Jordan LaFosse was hit by a pitch, bringing in a run, followed by Shelby Samples' single to left field, driving in another. A defensive error by Valdosta State allowed Kam Eaton to reach first and drive in a run, followed by Ashley Lightcap reaching on a passed ball, bringing in another unearned run. Jenny Griggers then walked, adding another run to Mississippi College's tally.

Valdosta State managed to add a run in the fifth inning with Proctor's sacrifice fly. However, Mississippi College's offense proved relentless as McCall Lee singled up the middle in the sixth inning, driving in another run. The highlight of the inning came with Madison Jenkins' powerful homer, bringing in three more runs and solidifying Mississippi College's win in walk off fashion.

Brookelyn Cannon earned her 9th win of the season in the circle, improving to 9-3 overall after delivering a 5.1 inning performance and five strikeouts.

MC improved to 30-6 overall and 14-6 in GSC play. They will take on the Blazers again on Sunday for the final game of the series beginning at 1 pm at the MC Softball Complex.
