CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College Track and Field is set to host its annual Mike McMillan Twilight Invitational, an event dedicated to honoring the late Mike McMillan, a devoted volunteer coach who contributed countless hours to the program. In addition to paying tribute to McMillan, the event will also recognize and celebrate the seniors on the track and field team for their dedication and commitment to representing the Navy Blue and Gold.
The entire Mississippi College Track and Field team will have the opportunity to compete one final time before the postseason, for finishing seniors this will be their last time competing in a home event. Coming off a year with several school records, NCAA provisional marks, and GSC bests the Choctaws will look to continue to set the world on fire for one final home meet this season
Several of these record breaking athletes will be competing today in the field events and will certainly be ones to watch at the start of the day. Shot Put school record holder Rashanna Thorne will compete in the shot put and hammer throw, undefeated Matthew Coleman will compete in the Javelin, Bryan Puckett will look to continue his display of excellence in the shot put and hammer throw, and lastly for the field events Ben Woolhouse will look to improve on his top GSC mark in the pole vault.Â
Moving to the track events the mens and women's 1500 meter races are stacked with talent. Current school record holder Lauren Wallace, and DMR anchor leg Taylor Benoit will headline the stacked heat. On the men's side Braedon Methvin and Cooper Parmer come in as the 2 under the four minute barrier for MC as they'll look to break open this very exciting field. We'll see Wallace and Benoit join teammate Haley Hall later in the day to highlight the women's 800 meter run. The men's 800 meter promises to be a sight to behold as Gabe Hodson, Wesley Gibbs, Evan Wrights, and Brandon Williams will be the top four seeds having all broken the 1:55 mark.Â
In the women's sprints, the swift Alana Green will be looking to improve on her season best of 24.75 in the 200 meter as she'll attempt to move up in the GSC standings.
The men's 4x400 meter as usual promises to be a treat at the end of the night. The Choctaws will attempt to take back the number one spot in the GSC while also improving their national ranking in a race that's sure to display fireworks.Â
The most important aspect of this meet however is to honor the memory of Mike McMillan. He's a reminder of the power of selflessness, hard work, team work, and dedication. His commitment to Mississippi College has inspired this program to exist based on those values, and his memory will be honored tonight.
This event, which offers free admission, is open to the public, and the Mississippi College Track and Field community invites you to join in this special day of competition and celebration. We encourage everyone to come out and support the student-athletes as they honor the memory of Coach McMillan and recognize the seniors who have proudly represented the Navy Blue and Gold.
