CLINTON, Miss. ---- The #12 Mississippi College Lady Choctaws emerged triumphant after a hard-fought battle against West Georgia, securing a commanding 10-2 victory amidst a challenging five-hour day mixed with a three-hour rain delay at the MC Softball Complex.
The game began with Camryn Bailey getting things started for MC in the circle, striking out two batters in the first inning before weather conditions forced the first of three rain delays. Despite the interruptions, the game saw its first hit in the top of the second, courtesy of West Georgia's Madidon Vandergriffs' single to left field.
In a stellar display of offensive firepower, the Lady Choctaws surged ahead in the bottom of the third inning, scoring five runs on four hits. Bailey kickstarted the onslaught with a single, followed by hits from McCall Lee, Kamryn Eaton, and Ashley Lightcap, propelling Mississippi College to a commanding 5-0 lead over West Georgia.
However, West Georgia fought back in the fourth inning, scoring two runs of their own courtesy of a powerful two-run home run to center field from Jacelyn Lahr. Undeterred, Mississippi College extended their lead with two more runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run single from Ashley Delany.
The game reached its conclusion in dramatic fashion as Shelby Samples' RBI single and McCall Lee's two-run blast to left field secured the victory for Mississippi College, ending the game in run-rule fashion with a final score of 10-2 and to secure the top spot currently in the Gulf South Conference standings at 21-6 inn GSC play.
McCall Lee's impressive performance included two hits, three RBIs, and the game-winning home run, while Shelby Samples, Ashley Delany, and Ashley Lightcap each contributed with two RBIs of their own.
Looking ahead, Mississippi College will face off against rival Delta State in a three-game series at University Field on April 26-27.
