CLEVELAND, Miss. — Mississippi College completed a series sweep of Delta State on Sunday with an 11–5 victory at University Field, powered by a four-home run performance at the plate.
The Choctaws improved to 28-19-1 overall and 18-12 in Gulf South Conference play, extending their winning streak to three games heading into the final regular-season series.
Mississippi College jumped out early in the second inning when Mary Lem delivered a two-run home run to left field. Delta State answered with a solo shot from Maeve Lavoy, but the Choctaws responded with a big third inning to take control.
Ellie Fryar led off the frame with a solo homer, followed by a two-run blast from Blakely Gill. Megan Matheis added another solo home run later in the inning as MC built a 6–1 advantage.
Delta State (12-32) trimmed the deficit with a two-run homer from Laney Daigrepont in the third and added runs in the fourth and sixth innings, but Mississippi College maintained its lead throughout.
Fryar paced the Choctaws offensively, going 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Gill also recorded three hits and drove in two runs, while Lem finished with three RBIs.
In the circle, Camryn Bailey (14-8) earned the win, allowing one run over two innings. AK Willingham and Grace Wallis combined in relief to limit Delta State to four runs over the final five innings.
Mississippi College added insurance runs in the middle innings with a pair of sacrifice flies before Fryar's second home run in the sixth capped the scoring.
The Choctaws will close out the regular season on the road at West Alabama, beginning Thursday at 5 p.m. CT, followed by a doubleheader on Friday in Livingston, Alabama.
