CLINTON, Miss. --- Excitement is building as the Mississippi College Choctaws prepare to make the trip to Memphis, Tennessee for the Rhodes 7-way. Taking place on Saturday, April 13th at the Rhodes College track facility, the action packed meet begins at 11:00am CST.
Kicking off with the women's 5k this meet offers an exciting opportunity for many Choctaws to grace the track and is promised to be an exciting sight to behold for fans.
This year's lineup highlights several different Choctaw athletes who have already ran or thrown NCAA provisional standards. Among them are athletes who sit in the top 10 in their respective
events.
Notable athletes to watch on the men's side include Nik Klei, and
Grayson Foster. The dynamic duo both sit in the top 5 in the NCAA in the 400 meter. They sit at one and two in the GSC and
will surely be looking for the win. The MC 4x400 squad of
Evan Wrights,
Wesley Gibbs,
Connor Stewart, and Nik Klei will all be featured in individual events on Saturday, including the 200, 400, 800, and even the 1500 in races that promise to be fan favorites.
On the women's side
Bre Bell, and
Emily Berry will highlight the women's 5,000 meter squad. The two Choctaws will lead the charge of several other lady Choctaws in the event.
Alana Green will showcase her skills in the 100 and 200 meter events looking to improve on her current season marks. The men's 5,000 meter event will highlight
Cooper Parmer. A Choctaw who's broken the 15 minute barrier in this event last season will surely be looking for another incredible performance.
Field events will see
Matthew Coleman, who is currently the GSC field athlete of the week, and who has thrown provisional standards in the Javelin several times this season. Along with him is new school record holder in the Women's shot put,
Rashanna Thorne. Thorne put out her best showing ever last week at the Joe Walker invitational, and will be another exciting athlete to
watch in this week's contest.
The Rhodes 7-way will begin at 11:00am CST, and will start with the womens 5,000 meter. Fans are encouraged to join us at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee for a day of competition that promises not to disappoint.
