ROME, Ga. — #10 Mississippi College swept Shorter in Saturday's doubleheader, securing victories in both games and clinching the series win on the road by final scores of 11-1 and 11-3.
In the first game, MC showcased their offensive firepower, gradually building their lead throughout the contest. Despite an early hiccup that allowed Shorter to take the lead in the second inning, Mississippi College quickly responded.
Emily Rigney's aggressive baserunning tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning. The momentum continued to swing in Mississippi College's favor as Kamryn Eaton's homer in the sixth inning pushed them ahead 2-1. MC dominated the seventh inning, with McCall Lee and Brookelyn Cannon adding homers of their own, extending the lead to 6-1. The Lady Choctaws continued to pile on more runs, with Hannah Tauzin, Jordan LaFosse, and Shelby Samples contributing crucial hits, ultimately sealing the victory with a final score of 11-1.
Brookelyn Cannon delivered a standout performance in the circle for Mississippi College in game one, allowing only one unearned run while striking out five batters.
In the second game, MC continued their offensive onslaught. Shelby Samples started the scoring with a homer in the first inning, putting Mississippi College ahead 1-0. However, Shorter quickly responded with a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning, taking the lead 3-1. MC fought back in the second inning, with Kamryn Eaton's single driving in a run and later scoring on a wild pitch, tying the game at 3-3.
The bats remained hot, with Ashley Lightcap adding a two-run homer in the fourth inning, giving Mississippi College a 5-3 lead. Kamryn Eaton's second homer of the day, along with hits from Caylee Comer and Ashley Lightcap, propelled MC to a game two win by a final of 11-3.
Camryn Bailey delivered a strong performance in the circle, earning her 13th win of the season while striking out six batters. With the wins, MC improved to an impressive 23-5 overall record and 9-5 in Gulf South Conference play. They will have the chance to complete the series sweep against Shorter tomorrow at 12 p.m. CST.
