MOBILE, Ala. --- Mississippi College claimed a doubleheader sweep over Spring Hill College in a closely contested match, ending with a final score of 4-2 in game one before winning. game two, 5-4.
MC struck first in the first inning with Shelby Samples singling to left center, bringing in Emily Rigney and giving MC an early lead.
Spring Hill College swiftly responded in the second inning with a homer, tying the game at 1-1.
The Lady Choctaws surged ahead once again in the third inning as Samples tripled to left field, driving in Jordan LaFosse, followed by an Ashley Lightcap double to left center, allowing Kam Eaton and Samples to score, expanding Mississippi College's lead to 4-1. MC went on to take the game 4-2.
In game two, Emily Rigney led the charge with three hits and three RBIs, including a crucial single in the second inning driving in two runs. McCall Lee's double in the fifth inning made history, as she broke the all-time career doubles record, marking her 44th career double.
MC scored two runs in the second, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth to take the win 5-4. Cam Bailey picked up wins in both games, improving to 12-2 in the circle on the season, while Brookelyn Cannon got two saves on the day.
With the wins, MC improved to 21-5 overall on the season. They return to actio this weekend in a three-game GSC series at Shorter in Rome, Ga., with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 pm, followed by game three on Sunday at 12 pm.
