Choctaws Drop Midweek Outing at Union

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Mississippi College baseball team's (12-12) comeback attempt came up short against the Bulldogs of Union University (12-14) at Fesmire Baseball Field on Tuesday, March 19.

Caleb Reese led the Choctaws in hits, going 3-6 and recording a pair of RBI.  Cole Drake, Bryce LaRocca, and Logan Shurden all recorded two hits of their own.
Carson Turner took the loss on the mound after allowing three hits and three runs while facing eight batters through two complete innings.  He was one of four Choctaw pitchers to take the mound.

Entering the 9th inning the Choctaws trailed, 10-7. Shurden then singled up the middle before advancing to third on a wild pitch and a passed ball. Reese then sent a two-run shot over the left field wall, pulling Mississippi College within a single run. However, the rally ended there, with the next two Choctaw batters being retired on a foul out and a fly out.

Mitch Sisk led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 3-4 and recording two RBI. Sam Galbraith (1-0) was the winning pitcher after facing just one batter and recording an out. Jamal Allen recorded his third save of the season, allowing two runs and striking out one while facing five batters in an inning of work.

MC led 3-0 after its first two trips to the plate, but found itself trailing by a run as the two teams headed into the third frame. Both squads exchanged leads over the next two innings, but the Red and White captured the advantage and the visitors from the Magnolia State couldn't overcome the deficit.

The Choctaws are back in action this weekend as they travel to Rome, Ga. to face Shorter. The series will begin on Friday at 11 a.m. CT before closing with a Saturday doubleheader at 11 a.m. CT.
