RAYMOND, Miss. --- #8 Mississippi College's offense was potent, racking up 10 hits and six runs as they blanked Montevallo at Rene T. Warren Field on the Hinds Community College campus on March 17th.
The game kicked off with MC's Cam Baley allowing a walk and a hit to Bentlee Stiner, but she managed to escape the inning with a two-out strikeout.
The Choctaws' hitting spree started with Shelby Samples' two-out double off Taylor Lloyd of Montevallo. Following Samples' hit, Cam Stiner held Montevallo hitless in the second inning. The momentum continued as Jenny Griggers blasted a leadoff home run to give MC an early 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, the Choctaws' offense exploded, scoring five runs on six hits. Jordan Lafosse ignited the rally with a single, followed by Shelby Samples' single, Griggers' fielder's choice, Ashley Lightcap's single, and Kamryn Eaton's home run. The offensive outburst gave the Choctaws a commanding 6-0 lead.
The rest of the game saw dominant performances from the Choctaws on both offense and defense, with Cam finishing strong in the circle, conceding only one hit and tallying four strikeouts.
Both Lightcap and Griggers contributed with one hit each, driving in two runs apiece, with Griggers also launching a home run. In total, eight players for the Choctaws recorded hits as they secured a 6-0 victory over Montevallo.
With the win, the Choctaws improved to a 19-5 record overall and 7-5 in GSC play for the season. They now travel to Mobile, Ala. to take on Spring Hill in a two-game series starting Wednesday, March 20th.
