CLINTON, Miss. --- #8 Mississippi College found themselves divided in a doubleheader against Montevallo, falling short with a 3-1 defeat in game one before regaining momentum with a 4-0 win in game two of the night.
In the opening game, Kam Eaton and Emily Rigney each contributed two hits a piece with MC collecting eight total hits as a team
Mississippi College stormed into the second game, setting the tone early, scoring four runs in the first inning.
The inning began with a hit from Shelby Samples, who tripled to right field, bringing in two runs as Jordan LaFosse and McCall Lee crossed the plate.
Shortly after, Kam Eaton made a move, stealing second base, while Shelby Samples capitalized, stealing home to extend Mississippi College's lead.
The momentum continued as Jenny Griggers stepped up to the plate, hitting a fly ball to center field, allowing Eaton to score tot give MC a 4-0 advantage, a lead they never surrendered as they went on to win 4-0.
McCall Lee, Jordan LaFosse, and Ashley Lightcap led the charge with two hits apiece, with LaFosse notably adding two RBIs.
The highlight of the game, however, came when McCall Lee recorded her final hit, marking her 202nd career hit and securing her place in the program's history as the all-time leader in hits, surpassing the previous record held by Jennifer Jones (201 hits, 2008-11).
In the circle, Brookelyn Cannon had nine strikeouts in game ones loss, while Cam Bailey and Madison Jenkins combined for a severing inning shutout in game two. Bailey improved to 9-2 overall on the season in the circle with the win.
With the win, Mississippi College split the day with Montevallo and now sets up a game three winner take all. MC looks to take their third GSC series victory of the season in the upcoming game three at the MC Softball Complex.
MC improved to 18-5 overall on the season, with a conference record of 6-5. Both teams take the field tomorrow beginning at 12 p.m. in Clinton, Miss.
