CLINTON, Miss. --- It was a busy Spring Break week for the Mississippi College tennis program, spending the week in four different locations playing Top 25 opponents in Central Florida.
The week kicked off on Saturday, March 9, with both squads facing off against Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach, with the women falling 4-0 to #23 Embry-Riddle and the men slipping in a 4-2 match.
The Lady Choctaws bounced back on Monday, March 11th, when they faced Rollins College, securing a victory with a score of 4-2. Ely Alas andÂ
Fernanda Cota secured a win in the #1 Doubles with a score of 6-4, followed by Ana De Mata Rodríguez andÂ
Gabrielle Geolier in the #2 Doubles, andÂ
Emma Roberts andÂ
Maria Rodriguez in the #3 Doubles, both with scores of 6-3.
Transitioning to singles play, Rollins College's Polina Vlasova secured a win against Alas in the #1 Singles with set scores of 6-2, 6-0. However, MC quickly rebounded, with Roberts claiming victory in the #2 Singles with set scores of 6-0, 6-0, and Cota securing another win in the #3 Singles with set scores of 6-3, 6-4.
MC maintained control with a win from Anna Hudson in the #6 Singles, with set scores of 6-1, 6-3, ultimately clinching the match with a final score of 4-2.
The next day, on Tuesday, March 12th, they competed against Florida Southern, taking the win with a score of 4-1.
Mississippi College's women's tennis team achieved a notable victory against Florida Southern, winning with a final score of 4-1. In doubles play, the pair of Emma Roberts and Maria Rodriguez secured a win with set scores of 6-2. In singles, Emma Roberts secured a victory at #2 singles with set scores of 6-2, 1-0. Additionally, Ana Julissa De Mata Rodríguez won at #5 singles with set scores of 6-2, 6-4. Gabrielle Geolier's capped off the singles wins for MC with set scores of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at #6 singles.
However, their winning streak was interrupted on Wednesday, March 13th, versus #13 Saint Leo, facing a close defeat with a score of 4-3. The Lady Choctaws went 2-2 over the week in Florida, falling to 6-5 overall on the season.
On Monday, March 11th, the men faced Rollins College, unfortunately falling short with a final score of 4-2. The next day, on March 12th, the Choctaws competed against Florida Southern, enduring a defeat with a score of 4-1.
The Choctaws fell once again on Wednesday, March 13th, as they encountered #3 Saint Leo, falling just short to the top 5 program in the country by a score of 4-3.
The men faced a tough week, going 0-4, over the Spring Break stretch, but will look to rebound on March 22nd at Montevallo for GSC play. The women get an opportunity at home on March 19th where they face off against Central Oklahoma at the MC Tennis Complex beginning at 1 p.m. in Clinton, Miss.Â
