CLINTON, Miss. — Coach Brooke O'Hair reached a significant milestone on Sunday as she notched her 500th career win in a decisive 6-2 victory over West Florida. The milestone victory adds another accolade to O'Hair's impressive coaching career, coming off of a season in which she was named the GSC Coach of the Year in 2023.
"I appreciate all the people who have come through this program. It's not about me or anybody else; it's about the ones that are here. We've had some amazing athletes and really, I'm thankful for them and all the assistants, trainers, and everybody who's put in time for this program. So, I'm just appreciative of everyone," Coach O'Hair humbly stated.
MC bounced back from a tough loss in game one of the doubleheader to secure the win in game two at the MC Softball Complex, notching O'Hair's 500th win.
"I often tell people that Mississippi College hired me when I was just a baby, and while I'm grateful for that, it's truly the people who make this place special. After 18 years here, I can say the sense of family remains unchanged. I'm thrilled to be part of it and grateful for the wins we've achieved together," Coach O'Hair reflected on her journey with the program.
Offensively, Mississippi College added timely hits and clutch at-bats, in game two. McCall Lee went 2-for-4 at th plate with two runs scored and a home run. Jordan LaFosse also had two hits and an RBI. Shelby Samples delivered in the clutch with two RBIs of her own.
Camryn Bailey was instrumental in the circle, going the distance with a stellar performance. Bailey pitched 7.0 innings, allowing only two runs on five hits while striking out an impressive 10 batters, improving her record to 8-2 on the season. Bailey struck out a career-high 12 in game one of the series on Saturday.
MC moved to 17-4 overall on the season and 5-4 in GSC play after Sunday's split doubleheader.
With O'Hair picking up her 500th career win, her and the #10 ranked Lady Choctaws now turn their focus to next weekend's three game series at home with Montevallo. The two teams are set to begin game one on Friday, March 15, with a single game beginning at 5 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex in Clinton, Miss.
