PITTSBURG, Ka. – Mississippi College's Track and Field team is primed and ready to showcase their talent at the Pitt State Gorilla Classic from Friday, February 9 to Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Pittsburg State University.
Meet Overview
The Pitt State Gorilla Classic promises to be a thrilling two-day event with intense competition. The Choctaws will be among the contenders vying for top honors in various competitions, focusing on securing national qualifying marks in the relay events.
Choctaws to Focus on Relay Events
On day one, the men's distance medley relay, comprised of freshman phenoms Evan Wrights and Grayson Foster, alongside 3 x NCAA DII All-American Gabe Hodson and 4 x GSC Champion Cole Benoit, will take on the Men's DMR at 4:40 PM Central Time. Notably, last year, the Men's DMR squad secured a commendable sixth-place finish at the 2023 NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships, with Benoit being the lone returner from that squad.
Following their male counterparts, the Women's distance medley relay, featuring Lauren Wallace, Hilary Udechukwu, Jazmin Russell, and Taylor Benoit, will compete at 5:05 PM Central time. Currently, the Lady Choctaw's DMR squad holds a respectable No. 6 rank in the country, though they will endeavor to improve upon that ranking during this weekend's competition.
On day two, Hodson, Foster, and Wrights will double back and join forces with three-time NCAA DII All-American Connor Stewart to tackle the Men's 4x400-meter relay, set to commence at 5:45 PM Central Time. The team enters the competition as the No. 1 overall seed. Impressively, in indoor and outdoor track and field last season, the Men's 4x400-meter relay secured a fourth-place finish at the national meet. They currently hold the 13th national ranking with a time of 3:13.78.
Every one of the athletes mentioned above has left an indelible mark on the Mississippi College Indoor Track and Field Top-10 lists, showcasing the talented squad that is to rep the navy blue and gold at this weekend's Pitt State Gorilla Classic.
