YOUNGSVILLE, La. ---- Mississippi College capped off the 2024 Mardi Grad Invite with a stellar outing, picking up a 1-0 win in the morning cap behind starting pitcher
Madison Jenkins no-hitter to Augustana, before waking up the bats for 12 hits in an 8-0 win over Harding.
Jenkins, making her mark in her first season with the Choctaws, delivered a no-hitter — the first of her career — in a tightly contested matchup. The lone run of the game was manufactured by Hannah Tauzin, who connected on a single. An ensuing two-base error by the left fielder allowed Tauzin to advance, putting her at third base in scoring position.
The pivotal moment for the Choctaws came in the next at-bat when Emily Rigney delivered a sacrifice fly, bringing Tauzin home to take a 1-0 lead.Â
Jenkins and the Choctaws defense dominated the rest of the way, shutting down Augustana in route to the 1-0 win. Jenkins went the complete game, going 7.0 innings, with five strikeouts, including four in a row to start of the game, while allowing four walks, and no hits. She threw a total of 98 pitches in her Choctaws starting debut, improving to 1-0 in the circle.Â
Emily Rigney, Jenny Griggers, Jordan LaFosse, and Hannah Tauzin each compiled a hit in the win, with Rigney picking up an RBI on her sacrifice fly to right field that scored Tauzin in the third inning.
