Game Recap: Softball |

Samples Delivers Two Walk-Offs in Series Win Over #25 UAH

CLINTON, Miss.
- In an exhilarating Sunday doubleheader, No. 7 Mississippi College secured two thrilling victories over No. 25 Alabama Huntsville , clinching the series win with a 2-1 record for the weekend.

The doubleheader sweep, capped by walk-off heroics, marked a significant milestone for Mississippi College softball, as they improved to 10-1 overall on the season, their best start in school history since returning to NCAA Division II.

In the first game of the doubleheader, MC found themselves locked in a tense battle with UAH. After a back-and-forth affair that extended into extra innings, it was Shelby Samples who emerged as the hero, blasting a two-run walk-off home run in the 11th inning to secure an 8-6 victory for MC, evening the series at 1-1.

The excitement continued in the second game of the day, as MC and UAH traded blows in another closely contested matchup. MC struck first, with Jordan LaFosse scoring on an error in the first inning, followed by Jordan Moore scoring on a passed ball in the second inning. Jenny Griggers added another run in the fourth inning with an RBI groundout.

However, UAH fought back, tying the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning with RBI hits from Jada Henderson and Douthitt. With the game deadlocked in the seventh inning, it was once again Shelby Samples who delivered in the clutch, driving in the winning run with a single to center field, lifting MC to a 4-3 victory and completing the Sunday sweep.

In the circle, both Camryn Bailey (5-1)  and Brookelyn Cannon (2-0) put in solid performances to secure the victories for Mississippi College. Cannon earned the win in the second game, pitching two scoreless innings of relief.

MC Improved to 10-1 and 2-1 in GSC play with the series win, moving to 3-1 on the season versus the NFCA Top-25. MC returns to action on Saturday, February 24, where they take on AUM in GSC action. Both teams take the field for a doubleheader on day one beginning at 1 p.m. followed by a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Montgomery, Ala.
