CLINTON, Miss. - In a thrilling battle between two top 25 softball teams in the GSC season opener, No. 7 MC faced off against No. 25 UAH, losing 9-8 in a tightly contested match at the MC Softball Complex.
The game showcased intense back-and-forth action from start to finish, with UAH scoring early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. However, MC quickly responded, tying the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning.
The game remained close, with UAH taking a 5-3 lead in the third inning. MC fought back, with Jenny Griggers hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to put MC ahead 5-4.
UAH surged ahead in the fifth inning, scoring three runs to take an 8-5 lead. The Lady Choctaws rallied once again in the bottom of the sixth, with McCall Lee delivering a clutch three-run home run to tie the game at 8-8.
Despite the dramatic comeback, UAH managed to plate a run in the top of the eighth inning, taking a critical 9-8 lead. Mississippi College was unable to complete the comeback, ultimately falling by a single run in extra innings.
MC's offensive effort was led by McCall Lee, who contributed a home run and three RBIs, and Jenny Griggers, who also homered and tallied two RBIs. Shelby Samples and Kamryn Eaton also made significant contributions with two hits each.
The loss brings MC's record to 8-1 on the season, while UAH improves to 8-3 with the victory. UAH takes game one of the series with games two and three tomorrow beginning at 12 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex.
