CLINTON, Miss. --- In a dominant display, the men's tennis team defeated #9 UT Tyler, securing a convincing 5-2 victory at home at the MC Tennis Complex on Friday.

Alex Benichou Blanchard and Rafael Sabio led the charge with a commanding win in the #1 doubles, with a solid 6-1 winning performance. Walker Ellis and Alvaro Saint Martin kept the momentum going in the #2 doubles, clinching a thrilling 7-5 victory.

In singles action, Blanchard continued his impressive form, cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 win in the #1 singles. Rafael Sabio followed suit with a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the #2 singles, while Saint Martin sealed the deal with a gritty performance, with scores of 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the #3 singles.

It was the first win over the #9 ranked Patriots in 21 years for the Choctaws. 

On the women's side, the #24 ranked Lady Choctaws took care of business with A 5-2 win over the Lady Patriots.

They dominated in doubles, with Ely Alas/Fernanda Cota winning 6-4, Gabrielle Geolier/MariaRodriguez with a decisive 6-1 victory, and Roberts/Rodriguez sealing the deal with a 6-4 win. In singles play, Alas took a 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 win, while Roberts won with a 7-6, 6-3 set victory, and Cota winning 6-2, 6-1 victory as the Lady Choctaws closed out for the 5-2 win.

Both programs improved their overall records with the men moving to 3-0 overall while the women move to 2-1 on the season.

They return to action on Saturday as they travel to Magnolia, Arkansas to take on Southern Arkansas with the women set for 10 a.m. while the men take the court at 1 p.m.
