CLINTON, Miss. — The Mississippi College Lady Choctaws secured a decisive 3-0 victory against Auburn Montgomery on Sunday afternoon at Robert P. Longabaugh Field, celebrating Senior Day in style. With the win, MC clinched a berth in the Gulf South Conference tournament, set to begin next weekend in Montevallo, where they will enter as the 7th seed.
The Lady Choctaws wasted no time as Eduarda Silva opened the scoring just 7 minutes into the match, finding the net with an assist from Lillie Young. Margherita Giubilato extended the lead to 2-0 in the 13th minute, converting on her fifth goal of the season.
Silva added another goal in the second half, converting a penalty kick in the 64th minute to solidify the victory. The standout performance not only highlighted her offensive prowess but also showcased the team's overall strength, as they outshot the Warhawks 32 to 7.
Mississippi College dominated in key statistics, including shots on goal (16 to 5) and corner kicks (7 to 1). Goalkeeper Jessi Carro was instrumental in the clean sheet, making five saves throughout the match.
The Lady Choctaws finished the regular season with a record of 8-5-3 overall and 4-5-3 in the GSC.
Next Sunday, the Lady Choctaws will face off against the 2nd-seeded team in the GSC tournament, Montevallo, in Montevallo, Ala.
