CLINTON, Miss.  – The Mississippi College men's soccer team delivered a commanding performance Friday night, defeating the University of Montevallo 4-1. The victory secured the Choctaws a crucial spot for home-field advantage in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Championship quarterfinals.
Denis O. John was the standout player, scoring three goals in the match, marking a stellar performance that has placed him among the top scorers in the conference. His first goal came in the 20th minute, assisted by Sergio Garrido, giving the Choctaws an early lead. John doubled the advantage just after halftime, finding the net again at the 46:02 mark.
Pawemi Kumwenda extended the lead to 3-0 in the 56th minute with a well-placed shot, assisted by Angel Carceles. Montevallo's Cristobal Porter managed to convert a penalty kick in the 70th minute, but it was too little, too late for the Falcons.
John capped off the scoring with his third goal of the night in the 86th minute, bringing his season total to ten goals. The Choctaws dominated the match with a total of 17 shots, 11 of which were on target, while limiting Montevallo to just six shots on goal.

With this victory, Mississippi College improves to 8-4-2 overall and 6-3-1 in conference play, while Montevallo falls to 5-7-2 and 3-6-0 in the GSC.
Looking ahead, the Choctaws return to action for Senior Day on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 2:30 p.m. CT, facing Auburn University Montgomery at Robert P. Longabaugh Field in Clinton, MS.
