CLINTON, Miss. — The Mississippi College men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 defeat against Auburn Montgomery on Sunday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field. Despite the loss, the Choctaws secured their place in the Gulf South Conference tournament and will host the quarterfinal round next Saturday against Spring Hill at 1 p.m.
Auburn Montgomery opened the scoring in the 18th minute, with Benjamin Hoffman finding the back of the net following an assist from Carlo Russo. Hoffman doubled the lead in the second half, scoring again in the 63rd minute. Tasker Wheeler capped off the Warhawks' scoring with a goal in the 79th minute, assisted by Alexander Carey.
The Choctaws managed to outshoot AUM 12-7, but struggled to convert their opportunities into goals. They recorded five shots on target, yet the Warhawk defense, along with goalkeeper AUM's strong performance, kept Mississippi College scoreless.
Mississippi College finished the regular season with a record of 8-5-2 overall and 6-4-1 in conference play. The Choctaws will be looking to turn the page quickly as they get prepared for their GSC quarterfinal matchup at home on Saturday versus Spring Hill beginning at 1 pm.
