Volleyball Sinks Bucs in Straight Sets

MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team notched its eight Gulf South Conference sweep as it sank Christian Brothers University for the second time this season on Friday, Nov. 15. MC improves to 14-13 on the season and 12-8 in conference play.

The win moves the Choctaw one step closer to clinching a top four spot in the conference tournament and a first-round bye.

Lydia Paulette paced the Choctaw with 13 kills on the night as Meg Paparellla poured in nine kills to finished second on the team. It is the 72nd time in Paulette's career she has recorded double-digit kills. She also tied a career-high with five service aces to help in the offensive effort. Ali Wiggins chimed in 19 assists to lead the squad while Caylin Pixley added 18.

Samarin Kipple came with a dig of tying her career-high as she finished the night with 29 in the winning effort. Rhaia Davey recorded a team-best three blocks followed by two each from Mary Grace Foster, Julia Sumrall and Ellie Foco.

MC hit .330 on the night, including a .346 clip to open the match. The .330 attack percentage marked a season-high for the Blue and Gold, which also added a .333 swing percentage in the second set. The Choctaw claimed the opening two sets 25-11 and 25-14.

In the third frame, the home standing Bucs looked to send the match a fourth frame as it held a 15-12 advantage midway thru. However, MC responded with a 9-2 run to take the lead for good. The Red and Black clipped the deficit to within three points, but Davey delivered the final two points for the Choctaw for a 25-21 match-clinching victory in the third frame.

The win is the eighth straight in the series for the Choctaw and its third straight over the Bucs on their home floor.
