Cleveland, Miss. – Mississippi College and Delta State University played to a tense 1-1 draw in Gulf South Conference action on Friday at Delta Field.
The Choctaws (4-1-3, 1-1-3 GSC) struck early when Lillie Young found the net just over seven minutes into the match, with MaryElla White providing the assist. Mississippi College controlled the tempo in the first half, outshooting the Statesmen (1-2-4, 0-1-3 GSC) 7-4, but could not extend their lead.
In the closing minutes of the game, Delta State equalized in the 87th minute as Chloe Jackson scored, assisted by Robyn Moody. The late goal brought renewed energy to the Statesmen, who finished the match with a total of eight shots.
Mississippi College goalkeeper Jessi Carro recorded three saves, while the Choctaws had five shots on goal out of 18 attempts. The team also earned six corner kicks compared to Delta State's one.
The Lady Choctaws will next face the University of Montevallo on Wednesday, October 9 at Montevallo beginning at 6 p.m.
