NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Mississippi College men's soccer team showcased a powerful performance on Friday, defeating Trevecca Nazarene University 4-1 in Gulf South Conference action.
The game kicked off with Trevecca Nazarene's Ben Singer scoring early in the fifth minute, putting the home team ahead 1-0. However, Mississippi College quickly responded, leveling the match in the 11th minute when Sergio Garrido netted his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Santi Diosa.
As the first half progressed, the Choctaws gained momentum. Denis O. John delivered a decisive blow, converting a penalty kick in the 35th minute to give Mississippi College a 2-1 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Mississippi College continued to control the match. Jayce Dotson extended the lead to 3-1 in the 79th minute with a goal assisted by Alvaro Pena. Just before the final whistle, O. John added his second goal of the game in the 90th minute, sealing the victory at 4-1.
The Choctaws dominated the shot count with a total of 18 shots, nine of which were on goal. Trevecca Nazarene managed just seven shots, with only two on target. Mississippi College also recorded one corner kick while allowing Trevecca six, and both teams finished with 16 fouls.
Goalkeeper Cole Turner had a solid performance, making one save and allowing just one goal during the match.
With this victory, Mississippi College improves to 7-4-1 overall and 5-3-0 in GSC play. The Choctaws will next face Lee University on Sunday, October 27, at 3:30 p.m. CT in Cleveland, Tennessee.
