Volleyball Extends Win Streak; Sweeps West Alabama

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team extended its win streak as it notched its sixth sweep of the season – all in Gulf South Conference play - with a victory over the University of West Alabama. MC improves to 11-9 on the campaign and 9-3 in the conference.

The decision concludes a regular-season sweep over its visitors from Livingston and runs its win streak in the series to 12 straight – the longest by either team in the series.

Lydia Paulette recorded her 67th career contest with double figure kills as she totaled a team-best 14. The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native posted a .500 attack percentage in the effort and added four service aces. Caylin Pixley helped direct the offense as she dished out a team-leading 13 assists. It is the fifth time this season the Baton Rouge, La., product led the squad in dimes.

Samarin Kipple tallied 11 digs to help on the defensive side of the net while Cydney Mitchell and Paulette each registered a solo block.

A tussle throughout the three sets, the visitors from the Yellowhammer State came looking for their first conference win of the season, but were overpowered in each set as MC totaled a .253 attack percentage for the night, including a commanding .323 clip in the final frame. UWA, which scored the first point in the first and third set, finished with a sub .100 percentage.

The contest saw four lead changes and held eight stalemates over the three frames. A back-and-forth affair early in the first two sets, MC pulled away late to claim 25-16 and 25-15 victories. However, the third was a different story as the Choctaw looked to ice the match.

MC jumped out to an early 8-3 advantage and never looked back. The lead expanded to nine points late – the largest of the match - on a Kipple service ace. The deficit shrunk to six points, but a 5-0 run helped the Blue and Gold cruise to a match-clinching 25-14 victory. Ellie Foco supplied two kills during the spurt while Mitchell added one of her four and Paulette dropped in a pair of aces.

Mississippi College continues its six-match, home stand on Saturday, Oct. 26 as it takes on Auburn University at Montgomery. First serve is Noon.
