PITTSBURG, Ka. – Mississippi College's distance will travel to the Midwest compete in the competitive Wendy's Pittsburg State Invitational in Pittsburg, Ka., on Saturday, January 27.
Freshman phenoms Bryan Puckett and Grayson Foster, two past recipients of the Gulf South Conference (GSC) Men's Freshman of the Week award, are set to shine at the Wendy's Invitational. Foster currently leads the GSC in the men's 400m dash and will compete in that event and the 200m. At the same time, Puckett is ranked second in the Men's Shot Put in the Gulf South Conference and is looking to build off his momentum from his win last week at the Samford Open and make waves in the Men's Weight Throw.
Additionally, keep your eyes peeled for 3 x NCAA DII All-American Fabio Palmieri in the fast section of the men's 400-meter dash.
In the distance events, 3 x NCAA DII Cross Country National Qualifier Braedon Methvin Men's 5,000-meter run, while Haley Hall and Kathy Hammond are looking to make waves in the Women's 1-mile and 800-meter runs.
KEY NOTES
- Mississippi College logged 16 personal records and two event wins a week ago at the Samford University Open.
- Furthermore, the Choctaws added seven performances to the Mississippi College Indoor Track and Field Top-10 lists, totaling 36 for the season thus far.
- At this meet last year, 3 x NCAA DII All-American Niklas Klei broke the 400m school record in 46.9 seconds, a record that still stands today.
- Earlier this season, Grayson Foster ran the No. 3 All-time 400m performance in program history at this same facility, stopping the clock in 48.27 seconds. This provisional mark currently leads the Gulf South Conference in the men's 400m dash.
- Additionally, Foster, alongside Evan Wrights, Gabe Hodson, and Connor Stewart, ran a GSC-leading time in the 4x400-meter relay of 3:15.34 earlier this season at the Pittsburg State facility.
- Bryan Puckett, a 2 x GSC Freshman of the Week recipient who is currently ranked No. 2 in the GSC in the men's Shot Put, will lead a strong contingent in the throws, including GSC outdoor medalist Jake Keesee, James David Miller, and Brodie Ezell, all of whom are ranked in the GSC and are a part of the Top 10 All-time program lists.
- Discus school record holder Nicole Morris is coming off a No. 5 All-time mark in program history in the Women's Weight Throw and will compete in that event and the Women's Shot Put.
- Baxter Friedman, the recent No. 10 All-time performer in the Men's 1-mile in program history, will spike up in the Men's 1-mile and 800-meter run.
- Haley Hall, coming off a 5:08 mile and runner-up finish at the Samford Open, will toe the line in the Women's 1-mile and 800-meter run.
