Track & Field's Bryan Puckett Wins GSC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Bryan Puckett, a freshman hailing from Lovejoy, GA, showed up and showed out in the Men's Shot Put at the 2024 Samford Open. Because of his efforts, Puckett has been awarded the GSC Men's Freshman of the Week Award.

The freshman phenom not only won the meet but soared to No. 2 all-time in program history, securing the best freshman performance to rep the blue and gold with a mark of 15.35 meters.

Moreover, this mark also serves as a GSC No. 2, and also holds that same position in the NCAA DII South Region, holding true as the top freshman. Furthermore, Puckett is the No. 11 freshman in the entire NCAA DII in the Men's Shot Put. This is the second time Puckett has received a weekly honor from the Gulf South Conference, recently winning GSC Freshman of the Week from his 2023 BSC Indoor Ice Breaker performance.

Up next for Puckett and the Choctaws is the Wendy's Pittsburg State Invitational to be held in Pittsburg, KS., as well as the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston, MA. hosted by Boston University.
