LIVINGSTON, Ala. – In a tightly contested matchup at Tiger Stadium on Saturday evening, West Alabama defeated Mississippi College by a final score of 10-7.
In the second quarter, MC got on the scoreboard first with Ron Craten breaking free for a 17-yard touchdown run, giving the Choctaws a 7-0 lead.
West Alabama responded with 8 minutes and 40 seconds left in the second quarter when Elijah Guyton successfully converted a 30-yard field goal, reducing the Choctaw deficit to 7-3.
In the fourth quarter, West Alabama seized the lead as Tucker Melton connected with Dearrius Nelson for a 14-yard touchdown pass, followed by Elijah Guyton's successful extra point. The Tigers secured a 10-7 lead, which they maintained for the rest of the game, resulting in a 10-7 victory.
As a team, MC managed 109 rushing yards and 134 passing yards, while West Alabama gained 186 rushing yards and 126 passing yards.
Cameron Davis completed 13 of 30 passes for 134 yards but threw one interception with Ron Craten leading the Choctaws' rushing attack with 64 yards and a touchdown
In the receiving department, Jacob Stephens was the leading receiver for MC with 5 catches for 37 yards.
Defensively, Chase Rush and David Brown IV each secured an interception during the game.
Mississippi College (1-3) returns to action next Saturday on the road in Rome, Ga. with kickoff set for 11 a.m. CST versus Shorter
