CLINTON, Miss. --- #15 Mississippi College showed off their offensive firepower in a dominant 7-1 win over Delta State on senior day.
The Lady Choctaws jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when McCall Lee grounded out to first base, bringing home the first run of the game to take a 1-0 lead. Jenna Ergle then followed up with a two-run homer, scoring senior Brooke Fagan to make it a 3-0 lead.Â
Jordan LaFosse added another homer to center field, bringing the Lady Choctaws' lead to 4-0 in the first inning.
MC continued to add to their lead in the second inning with a pair of unearned runs, with senior Shelby Samples and Brooke Fagan contributing to the scoreline to bring the lead to 6-0.
In the third inning, Alexis Laughlin singled to center field, advancing to second and bringing home LaFosse, making the score 7-0 in favor of the Lady Choctaws.
Delta State got on the scoreboard in the seventh inning with a fielder's choice from senior Lacey Coffey, but was not enough as Mississippi College held on for the win by final of 7-1.
The Lady Choctaws out-hit the Lady Statesmen 14-5, with senior Brooke Fagan and Jordan LaFosse each recording two hits in the game. Senior pitcher Avery Barnett (15-4) picked up the win, pitching 7.0 innings with five hits allowed and just one run, with two strikeouts.
Jenna Ergle hit a two-run homer in the first inning, helping to set the tone for the Lady Choctaws' win. She finished the game going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs batted in and one run scored.
LaFosse also had a big game for MC, hitting a homer to center field in the first inning and going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI. McCall Lee also contributed to the Choctaws' offensive onslaught, going 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI.
MC picked up their 40th win of the season, tying the school record for overall wins in a season, while clinching the second seed in next week's Gulf South Conference Tournament in Oxford, Ala.Â
The Lady Choctaws closed out the regular season with an overall record of 40-8 and 24-6 in GSC play. Prior to the game, MC honored their six seniors: Alexis Laughlin, Jaycee Dill, Brooke Fagan, Avery Barnett, Ali King, and Jenna Ergle.
