MONTEVALLO, Ala. — In a closely contested matchup on Sunday, the #18 Lady Choctaws team fell to Montevallo by a score of 11-8.
Despite jumping out to an early lead in the second inning, MC was unable to hold off a late surge from Montevallo. Mississippi College fought hard throughout the game, but ultimately came up short.
Jenna Ergle had a standout performance for the Lady Choctaws, going 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. McCall Lee also had a great day, hitting a home run and finishing 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Jordan LaFosse hit a grand slam in the third inning, giving MC a 5-4 lead. Shelby Samples and Alexis Laughlin also contributed to the offense with two RBIs each.
In the circle, Camryn Bailey started the game for the Lady Choctaws and pitched three innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits. Avery Barnett came in to relieve Bailey in the fourth inning and pitched the rest of the game, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits.
The Lady Choctaws now have a 37-8 record and a 21-6 record in Gulf South Conference play. They return to the field to take on Delta State in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday. The first game of the series will be played on Friday at 5 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex.
