IRONDALE, Ala. --- #18 Mississippi College improved their season record to 35-7 overall after taking a midweek doubleheader swep over West Georgia in Irondale, Ala. by scores of 7-6 in game one and 14-3 in game two.
In game one, in the third inning, Jordan Moore walked and advanced Jenna Ergle to second and McCall Lee to third, allowing Brooke Fagan to score the first run of the game for MC, taking a 1-0 lead.Â
West Georgia answered back in the sixth inning with a homer by Helton. However, MC gained momentum in the sixth inning with Kamryn Eaton's double to left field, allowing Shelby Samples to score, followed by Brooke Fagan's sacrifice fly to left field, letting Hannah Tauzin score.
McCall Lee then hit a homer to left field, bringing in two more runs for the Lady Choctaws making 5-1. In the seventh inning, West Georgia fought back with Green's homer, followed by Pinto's single and Vandergri's single, which brought in three more runs to take 6-5 advantage heading into the seventh.
However, Jaycee Dill hit a triple to left field, allowing Samples and Bailee Avants to score two unearned runs, securing a 7-6 win for the Lady Choctaws in comeback fashion.
In game two, MC cruised to a 14-3 win over the Lady Wolves, after starting off the game with four runs in the first inning with a homerun by Shelby Samples and RBI singles by Jordan Moore and Jaycee Dill.
The Lady Choctaws added two more runs in the fourth inning with a homerun by McCall Lee and a homerun by Jenna Ergle in the same inning. Mississippi College continued to score in the fifth and seventh innings, with RBI hits by Brooke Fagan and Lee, and a sacrifice fly by Samples, on their way to winning 14-3.
Barnett picked up both wins on Wednesday, improving to 12-4 in the circle. In game two, Barnett went the full 7.0 innings. She gave up six hits, three runs, and two earned runs, while striking out six batters. Camryn Bailey got the start in game one, going 6.0 innings in the contest. She Bailey allowed just four hits, four runs, while striking out 5 batters.
Mississippi College Softball will play Montevallo in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, followed by another game on Sunday at 12 p.m. in Montevallo, Alabama.
