MONTEVALLO, Ala.— History was made on Saturday evening as MC sophomore Kamryn Eaton put herself into the record books in game two versus Montevallo, hitting her 15th home run of the season to break the single season HR record.
Eaton helped guide #18 Mississippi College to two wins on Saturday, winning game one 3-1 before dominating game two 19-8 behind 19 hits.
In game one, MC (37-7, 21-5 GSC) opened the scoring in the sixth inning when Jordan Moore reached first on an error by the shortstop, scoring Emily Rigney.
In the seventh inning, Alexis Laughlin hit a sacrifice bunt, bringing in Jaycee Dill for the second run. Jenna Ergle followed it up with a single to left field, allowing Brooke Fagan to score the third and final run of the game.
Montevallo scored their lone run in the third inning when Alexis Lanyon fouled out to left field, advancing the runners and allowing Gracie Hughes to score.
Camryn Bailey pitched a complete game, allowing only two hits, one run, and striking out four batters. Bailey's record improves to 21-3 on the season.
In game two, MC came out strong in the first inning with a three-run homer from Jenna Ergle, who scored McCall Lee and Avery Barnett. In the same inning, Kamryn Eaton scored on an unearned run, making it 4-0. Montevallo scored their only run in the bottom of the first with a solo homer from Robinson.
Mississippi College continued their scoring spree in the second inning, with Jordan Moore scoring on an error by the second baseman. Jenna Ergle then drove in Kamryn Eaton with a single. Emily Rigney and Ergle each had an RBI single, and Brooke Fagan drove in Lightcap with a double. Ergle followed up with a double, driving in Fagan, making it 12-1 in favor of MC.
In the third inning, Kamryn Eaton hit a solo homer, breaking the school single-season home run record with her 15th home run of the season. Brooke Fagan followed, hitting a two-run homer, increasing the lead to 16-1. Montevallo scored four runs in the bottom of the third, with Robinson and Lanyon each having an RBI. Montevallo scored two more runs in the fourth inning with Higginbotham hitting a two-run double.
MC added to their lead in the fourth inning with Shelby Samples driving in Caylee Comer, who scored on an error by the left fielder. Kamryn Eaton then hit an RBI double, making it 18-5. Montevallo scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth, with T. Robinson and Lanyon each driving in a run.
McCall Lee grounded out to third, driving in Emily Rigney in the fifth inning, ending the game with a final score of 19-8.
Avery Barnett got the win for Mississippi College in the circle to improve to 13-4 overall. MC had a total of 19 hits, with Brooke Fagan going 3-for-4, including a home run and a double, and Jenna Ergle going 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. Shelby Samples had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Kamryn Eaton had three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs.
Mississippi College and Montevallo return to action tomorrow for game three of the series beginning at 12 p.m. at the Softball Stadium at Orr Park.
