TYLER, Texas --- Mississippi College took on UT Tyler on Sunday, with the men falling by a final of 4-2 while the women won 4-3 over the Lady Patriots.
Ely Alas and
Fernanda Cota defeated Allison Schwartz and Akshaya Suresh 7-5 in #1 doubles, but fell in #2 and #3 doubles, as the Lady Patriots took the 1-0 lead into singles play.
Alas won 6-3, 7-5 at #1 singles over Brooklyn Ross before getting wins at #3 singles from Cota, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, #4 singles from
Gabrielle Geolier, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4, and a win at #5 singles by Anna Valiava, 6-1, 7-6, as the Lady Choctaws achieved the clinching point to top off UT Tyler 4-3.Â
On the men's side, MC took wins at #2 and #3 doubles from Hsiang Yi Wang/
Alvaro Saint Martin (6-3) over Jordi Garcia/Egor Shestakov, and
Joe Jarvis/
Antoine Nivault (6-4) over Jonas Dixon/Carl Wessel as MC got the 1-0 doubles lead.Â
In singles play, UT Tyler took four court wins with the Choctaws winning at #4 singles, as Nivault won 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 over Wessel.
The men fall to 6-3 overall on the season while the women improve to 8-1 on the season. Both teams return to action tomorrow versus Tyler Junior College at UT Tyler.Â
They take the court beginning at 9 a.m. at the Summers Tennis Center in Tyler, Texas.
