CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- #23 Mississippi College split Friday's doubleheader with the Lee Lady Flames, falling in game one by a final of 6-5 before taking game two 8-6.
In game one, MC struck first in the first inning inning with a
Jenna Ergle single to right field, scoring
Brooke Fagan to put the Lady Choctaws ahead 1-0.
Lee utilized two home runs in the first and fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead over MC. Fagan got two runs back with a two run home run to right centerfield, pulling MC back to within a one run deficit, 4-3.Â
An RBI single and a solo home run for the Flames extended their lead back to three runs, taking 6-3 lead into the final inning. MC put together two runs in the seventh on two hits, but was not enough to finish a comeback, falling 6-5 in game one.
Game two was a different outcome for the Lady Choctaws. After falling behind 6-0 through the first two inning, the nationally ranked Lady Choctaws got three runs back in the fourth inning on a two RBI double by
Jenna Ergle and an RBI single by
Jordan Moore, pulling the score back to 6-3.
In the fifth inning,
Brooke Fagan crushed her second home run of the day, with a three run HR, scoring
Jaycee Dill and
Alexis Laughlin to tie the game up at 6-6.
Jordan Moore tore one down the right field line in the seventh inning, mounting a triple on the play while producing two runs with
McCall Lee and Fagan scoring to give MC the 8-6 lead.Â
Camryn Bailey went on to shutdown the Lady Flames in the seventh, securing the win for the Lady Choctaws, as MC went on to win by a final of 6-5.
With the win, Bailey improved to 16-2 on the season overall.
Avery Barnett pitched the first 5.1 innings of game two with three strikeouts.Â
MC had nine hits as a unit in game two while producing eight hits in game one.
Jordan Moore,
McCall Lee, and
Brooke Fagan each tallied two hits int he game two win.
Jordan LaFosse and
Kamryn Eaton had two hits in game one.Â
MC evened up the series with the game two win on Friday, improving to 23-5 overall and 11-3 in GSC play, The two teams go head to head on Saturday with first pitch set for 12 p.m. CST in Cleveland, Tenn.
