PENSACOLA, Fla. --- #25 Mississippi College completed their third conference sweep in a row on Sunday, defeating West Florida by a final score of 14-0.
The nationally ranked Lady Choctaws came out swinging and scoring early in third game of the GSC series with the Lady Argos, scoring 11 runs on 12 hits through the first two innings of play.
Eight Lady Choctaws had at least one hit through two innings, as MC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on third singles, including an RBI single by
Jordan LaFosse that scored
Brooke Fagan.
MC had a field day in the second inning, collecting nine total hits as a team and scoring 10 runs. The second inning was highlighted by a leadoff double by
Shelby Samples, before scoring on an RBI triple by
Kamryn Eaton, an RBI single by
Brooke Fagan, an RBI double by
McCall Lee, singles by
Jenna Ergle,
Jordan Moore,
Kamryn Eaton - her second hit of the inning -
Alexis Laughlin, and a two RBI triple by
Jordan LaFosse.
After two innings, MC led 11-0. The Lady Choctaws plated three more runs in the third inning, increasing their lead to 14-0.
Camryn Bailey and
Avery Barnett combined to go the five innings in the game with Bailey throwing 3.0 innings, while Barnett shut UWF down in the final 2.0 innings, as MC went on to complete the game three shutout sweep.
As a team, MC collected 16 total hits, while Barnett and Bailey only allowed three hits in the win. Bailey picked up the win, improving to 15-1 overall on the 2023 season in the circle. Six Lady Choctaws had two hits with
Alexis Laughlin and
Jordan LaFosse leading the way with three runs batted in.
MC had three triples as a unit, with
Hannah Tauzin, LaFosse, and Eaton each tallying one triple. Eaton and Samples had a game best three runs scored a piece.
MC has won 13 games in a row, including three GSC series sweeps in a row, as the nationally ranked Lady Choctaws improve to 22-4 overall and 10-2 in GSC play.
They hit the road next weekend for GSC play, in a three game series versus Lee. The two teams square off beginning at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday in Cleveland, Tenn.
