INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The Mississippi College Track and Field program is proud to announce that five individuals and two relays have qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships. This marks the most athletes the school has ever sent to a national championship event in track and field.
The individual qualifying athletes are Kelechi Christian, Niklas Klei, Hunter Kurz, Jan Lukas Becker, and Cole Benoit. On the women's side, Kelechi Christian qualified for the 200-meter dash with a mark of 24.25. The men are sending Niklas Klei in the 400-meter dash, Hunter Kurz in the 1-mile run, and both Jan Lukas Becker and Cole Benoit in the Men's 3,000 meter run. Becker also qualified for the Men's 5,000-meter run.Â
In addition to these individual qualifiers, the Choctaws are sending two relays to the national championships: The Men's 4x400-meter relay and the Men's Distance Medley Relay.Â
Coach Matthew Reneker expressed his excitement about the accomplishments of the athletes, stating, "We are so proud of these athletes and their hard work and dedication. They have put in the time and effort to get to this point, and we know they will represent Mississippi College with pride at the national championships."
The 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place on March 10-11 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Choctaws are looking forward to this opportunity and are ready to showcase their talents on the national stage.
