VALDOSTA, Ga. --- Mississippi College opened up Gulf South Conference action on Saturday, splitting a pair of games with #10 Valdosta State on the road.
Valdosta State completed the 8-0 win over MC in game one, as the Lady Choctaws were able to muster two hits as a team, before MC handled business in game two by a final of 7-4.
Jordan LaFosse and
Jenna Ergle collected the teams only two hits in game one, with game two being a different story for MC. The Lady Choctaws collected 11 hits as a unit in the game two win, led by
Jordan Moore with three total hits (3-of-4).
McCall Lee and
Kamryn Eaton each tallied two hits a piece, with Lee adding a three-run home run in the fifth inning, while Eaton hit her fifth home run of the season in the fourth inning. Eaton's two-run HR gave the Lady Choctaws the 2-1 lead, before opening up the score to a 7-4 win.
After scoring nothing in the first three innings of play, the Lady Choctaws notched two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two more insurance runs in the sixth inning.
Avery Barnett (2-2) picked up the win in the circle, going the entire seven innings with six strikeouts.
Mississippi College improved to 9-3 overall on the season, their best start through 12 games since the 2019 season (9-3 start) and 1-1 in GSC play.
MC also improved to 3-1 on the season versus the NFCA Top 25 with the win in game two. Both teams return to the field Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. for the series finale in Valdosta, Ga.
