Ivy, Vaughn Pace Choctaws in Setback to AUM

CLINTON, Miss. --- Karly Ivy and Sky Vaughn provided career-high scoring efforts as the Mississippi College women's basketball team fell, 64-54, to Auburn University at Montgomery on Sunday, Dec. 10. MC moved to 2-7 on the season and 1-5 in the Gulf South Conference while AUM improved to 6-4 and 4-2 in the league.
 
Ivy paced the squad with 19 points as she surpassed her previous total of 15 against the University of Montevallo on Dec. 8. Vaughn added 12 points to finish second on the team in scoring. Her previous career best was 11 points notched again Union on Nov. 25.
 
Jaliscia Florence paced the squad with a season-high nine rebounds as she bested her previous high of four. The Tupelo, Miss., native added six points, which equaled her season-best.
 
MC shot 40.4 from the floor, including a clip of 31.3 from behind the arc. The team attempted just five free throws in the game and converted on three for 60 percent. The Blue and Gold bested AUM by 10 on the glass as it collected 33 in the game.
 
AUM led by seven points following the first 10 minutes of action and expanded its advantage by outscoring the Choctaws 17-12 in the second stanza and taking a 38-26 lead in at the break. MC looked to climb back into the contest in the third period as it returned the favor as it flipped the scoring output from the previous period.
 
MC cut the deficit to within four points on a couple different occasions early in the final quarter and kept the margin to single digits. However, the Orange and Black expanded its lead to 61-52 with a minute to play and reached double figures with 35 ticks remaining.
 
Grace O'Gara led the Orange and Black with a season-high 26 points. Kamya Hollingshed added 12 points. Danielle Luckey grabbed a team-best six rebounds for the Warhawks. AUM shot 38.0 percent from the field, including 5-for-14 from the 3-point line. It attempted 25 free throws and converted on 21 for 84.0 percent.
 
MC picked up a bright spot from its bench in the setback. The Choctaw reserves combined for 23 of the team's point total and outgained the Warhawks by 14 in the category.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Dec. 15 as it travels to Livingston, Ala., for a Gulf South Conference contest against the University of West Alabama. Tip-off inside Pruitt Hall is 5:30 p.m.
