PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team dropped an 82-51 decision to the University of West Florida on Friday, Dec1 in their first road trip in Gulf South Conference play this season. MC moved to 2-4 on the season and 1-2 in the conference. The Argonauts improved to 5-2 and 2-1 in the league.
Brett Gardner kicked off the game with a deep ball to give the Choctaws a 3-0 lead, but would be the only lead of the game the Choctaws would see. Gardner led all scorers with her 15 points on the night, including knocking down three triples. Unfortunately, her makes from beyond the arc would be the only deep balls MC would hit, as they finished 3-of-16 from long range. The Choctaws finished the contest shooting 17-for-58 from the floor for just under 30 percent, but made 14 out of the 20 free throws they attempted.
Both teams saw foul trouble as the Argos finished with 17 personal fouls while MC collected 26, including three players with four or more fouls. This allowed UWF to shoot 36 free throws, making 25 of them. The other double-digit scorer outside of Gardner was
Karly Ivy, who finished the contest with 12 points on six field goals and the Denton, Texas sophomore led the Choctaws in rebounds with seven. The Argonauts have won the last two contests in the series after MC last defeated UWF 55-51 in a contest played at Belhaven University on November 26th, 2022.Â
The Choctaws next travel to Valdosta State where their game against the Lady Blazers tips off at 1 p.m CT on Sunday, Dec. 3rd.Â
