Mississippi College Track & Field Garners 15 Top-10 All-time Marks in Season Opener

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Mississippi College Track and Field program had a combined total of 15 Top-10 marks in program history, as well as a whopping 37 collegiate bests in their season opener at the 2023 BCS Indoor Icebreaker hosted by Birmingham-Southern College. 

The Choctaws' stellar performances were highlighted by a Mississippi College throws squad that made waves in their respective events, adding five marks to the Mississippi College Indoor Track and Field Top-10 lists. Additionally, several freshmen had historical collegiate debuts, making there presence known on the Top 10 list in the running events.

Men/Women Field Post-meet Statistics:

-The Mississippi College throws squad added five new marks inside the top-10 in various events in Mississippi College Indoor Track and Field history

-Sakari Faulkner led the way in the Women's Throws, throwing 14.82 meters in the Women's Weight Throw. This is just off her lifetime best of 14.90, which currently stands at No. 3 All-time in program history. 

-Fellow Lady Choctaw thrower Kennedy Thompson, a freshman, slotted in at No. 5 in the same event with a new lifetime best of 13.63 meters. 

-A quartet of Choctaws added marks to the men's Top-10 lists, two of which are freshmen. 

-In the Men's Shot Put, freshman Bryan Puckett spearheaded the Choctaws with a third place overall finish and No. 5 All-time in program history in the event. 

-Additionally, in the Men's Weight Throw, the trio of Jake Keesee(16.32m), James David Miller(16.13m), and freshman Brodie Ezell(15.64m) secured the No. 3, 4, and 5 spots on the Mississippi College Top-10 list, all hitting lifetime bests in the process. Notably, Keesee placed inside the top-5 overall in the competition with his mark. 

Men/Women Running Post-meet Statistics:

-In her collegiate debut, freshman Maddie Flugence made her mark in the Women's 60-meter hurdles, running 9.63 to and is now No. 5 All-time in program history in the event. 

-Distance dynamo Taylor Benoit added not just one, but two marks on the Mississippi College Top-10 list, running 5:05.3 in the mile(No. 4 All-time) and 2:19.9 in the 800m(No. 6 All-time), both massive lifetime bests. Additionally, she placed inside the Top 5 in the competition in the Women's 1-mile, and not resting on her laurels, came back and won her heat in the 800m. 

-Freshman Grayson Foster had a season opener to remember, asserting himself in the Top-10 list in two events in his college debut. Foster secured a lifetime best in the indoor 400m, stopping the clock in 49.75, good enough for No. 9 All-time in the event for Mississippi College. Moreover, the Madison, Miss. native achieved another lifetime best in the indoor 200m, sprinting to a 22.15 heat win and No. 7 All-time for the Choctaws. 

-Freshman phenom Evan Wrights made noise in the Men's 800m, placing fourth overall in 1:54.1, an indoor lifetime best for Mobile, Ala. native. Additionally, this performance was good enough to slot him at No. 4 All-time in the history of the event for Mississippi College Men's Indoor Track and Field.

The Choctaws will venture to the Midwest in Pittsburgh, Kansas to compete in the Crimson & Gold Invitational, hosted by Pitt State University.
