BOSTON, Mass. – Following a remarkable Cross Country season which concluded at the 2023 NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships just two weeks ago, Mississippi College's premier distance runners are set to make their mark at the upcoming Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, hosted by Boston University.
This prestigious meet, taking place at the acclaimed Boston University Track and Tennis Center, will see the Choctaws' elite distance runners compete in high-level events, beginning with the Women's 3,000-meter run.
PRE-MEET NOTES
- Braedon Methvin and Cole Benoit will represent the Choctaws in the Men's 3,000-meter run. Benoit, a national qualifier with a lifetime best of 7:59.23, ranks No. 2 all-time in program history for this event. Methvin, boasting top-five finishes at both the GSC and NCAA Division II South Region Cross Country Championships, recently placed in the top 100 at the 2023 NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships.
- On the women's side, Emily Berry, Lauren Wallace, and Bre Bell will compete in the Women's 3,000-meter run. Berry, holding the school record at 10:08.91, leads this strong group. Wallace, the 2023 GSC and South Region Cross Country runner-up, has proven her versatility with her top five ranking in program history in every event ranging from the 800m to the 5,000m. Bell, the reigning GSC Women's 3,000-meter Steeplechase Champion, adds to this formidable lineup.
- Jazmin Russell, the school record holder in both the indoor and outdoor Women's 5,000-meter run, will aim to surpass her own record in this signature event.
- These athletes' participation comes on the heels of a stellar performance at the 2023 NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships, where both the men's and women's teams placed inside the top 25 on the national stage.
