Clinton, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team fell to Christian Brothers University 66-60 this Monday evening (November 27th) in their second GSC contest of the year.
The Choctaws got out to a fast start as they paced a 13-4 run in the opening six minutes of the contest. The MC lead was extended all the way to 10 points with seven-and-a-half minutes remaining in the first half, mainly thanks to
Rashad Bolden. The final portion of the first half was CBU's as they outscored MC 12-6 in the final six minutes to only trail by two points at the half. The early minutes of the second half saw the Buccaneers take and hold a five point lead, but would later catch fire offensively. With 12:50 remaining, CBU would start a 13-3 run in six minutes to bring their lead all the way up to 17 with 6:08 remaining. With teams then trading buckets in the next few minutes of the contest, the lead stayed at the 17-point mark with two minutes to go. Using clutch turnovers and deep balls from the likes of
TJ Wallace,
Cam Brown, and
Jakemin Abney, the Choctaws were able to cut the deficit to just six with 10 seconds remaining. However, the magic would end there as the Buccaneers would hold on to win and give MC their first GSC loss of the season.Â
The Choctaws were once again paced by Bolden as he finished the night with seven assists and 22 points, including 16 in the first half. Brown and Abney also finished in the double-digit range with 15 and 10, respectively. While the Choctaws shot 43.8% from the field, they struggled from beyond the arc as they only shot 23.5% from triple ball land, including an 0-6 mark in the first half. Meanwhile, CBU caught fire in the second half, shooting 71% from the field in the final 20 minutes and a perfect 6-6 from behind the arc. The Christian Brothers starters also accounted for 64 of the team's 66 points.Â
The Choctaws (2-3, 1-1 GSC) take their first GSC road trip of the season as they will face West Florida on Friday, December 1st at 7:30 p.m. CT in Pensacola.Â
