Clinton, Miss— The Mississippi College Lady Choctaws defeated the Valdosta State University Lady Blazers 2-1 in a Sunday afternoon game at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.
The Lady Choctaws started out aggressively with fours shots in the first ten minutes of the match, however they were all either missed or saved by VSU goalie Claire Timberlake. The Lady Blazers then were able to take an early leader off a 12th minute goal by Ana Moleka off an assist by Molly Wooldridge.
The teams continued to trade blows throughout the first half before the Lady Choctaws equalized on an Irene Lores goal in the 30th, assisted by Erin Headerman.
The 1-1 score would hold until the 48th minute when the Lady Choctaws broke the tie off the foot of Margherita Giubilato. With the lead secured at 2-1 the Choctaws did their work on defense to close out the match and take home their fourth win in a row.
The Lady Choctaws won the battle in shots and shots on goal 18-12 and 9-6, respectively. Timeberlake recorded six saves for the Lady Blazers and gave up two goals, while Jessi Carro saved five and allowed just one for the Lady Choctaws.
In a game that got chippy at times the Lady Choctaws fouled nine times while the Lady Blazers committed twelve along with two yellow cards.
The Lacy Choctaws are back in action on Friday, October 13 on at West Alabama at 5 p.m. CT.
