Clinton, Miss., --- The Mississippi College Lady Choctaws defeated the Lady Hawks of Shorter University 13-0 this Friday afternoon (October 20, 2023).
Just five minutes into the match, Eduarda Silva started the scoring spree for the Blue and Gold and was one of seven goals in the first half for MC.
Erin Hederman picked up her fifth goal of the season six minutes later, and she also tied the all-time career assists record with 31 on her pass to a
Kaylee Foster goal in the 16th minute.
Kathryn Knuth also made her way into the scoring column in the 20th minute and
Makayla Hernandez placed her first of three goals on the day via a penalty kick in the 25th minute. Finally, three minutes later,
Erin Stamatopoulos scored her first goal of the season with the final 15 minutes of the half seeing no scoring.
In the second half, MC produced six more goals and they came off the feet of
Paula Catalan for her first season goal,
Summer Utzig,
Lillie Young,
Olivia Graham,
MaryElla White, and Hernandez scored twice more as the senior picked up a hit trick. Hernandez was also the only Lady Choctaw to score more than once as the team had 11 different scorers on 13 goals. Additionally, the Lady Choctaws outshot Shorter by a margin of 36-3 and was the widest margin of victory since October 5, 2013 when MC defeated LeTourneau by the same score.
With the win, the Lady Choctaws also secured a spot in the GSC Tournament as they currently sit at the number two spot in the table with three regular season matches to go. The next game and final home match of the year is this Sunday, October 22, where Senior Day festivities will be held as Lee comes into town. The match at Robert P. Longabaugh Field will begin at 1 p.m.
