VALDOSTA, Ga. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team suffered an 82-31 loss in Gulf South Conference action at Valdosta State on Thursday, Jan. 19. MC moved to 4-14 on the season and 3-12 in the conference while the Lady Blazers improved to 14-3 and 13-2.

The victory gave the Lady Blazers their third straight in the series and the second on its home floor.

Kaylee Jones posted double figures to lead the Choctaw. The Greenwood, Miss., scored a career-high 16 points coming off the bench. Her previous high was eight points against Christian Brothers on Jan. 12, 2023. She becomes the ninth Choctaw to lead the team in scoring this season. Jones also paced the squad on the glass with six rebounds, which is one shy of her career-high of seven set against CBU. The team totaled 27 boards in the setback.

MC shot just 22.0 percent from the field in the contest and connected on just 71.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Kyiah Julian moved up the program's 3-pointers list as she knocked down the 98th trey at the 6:24 mark of the third quarter. The Greenwood, Ark., native holds sole possession of third in career 3's. Former Choctaw Anna Patterson (2007-10) holds the school record with 108 while Randa Lee (2007-11) sits second on the list with 102.

VSU led from post to post in the contest as it opened the contest on a 17-0 run. Jones put MC on the board at the four-minute mark of the opening period with a jumper off the feed from
Taylor Ben. Jones added a free throw on the backend of the bucket to start her night in the scoring column. However, VSU held a 25-6 margin at the end of the first and a 49-13 advantage at the intermission.

India Jordan paced the Red and Black in scoring with 21 points. Taylor Searcey added a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. VSU 42.9 percent from the floor in the affair and converted 13 of 17 from the charity stripe for a 76.5 clip. It added 48 rebounds.

Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 as it continues the conference road swing in the Sunshine State. Tip-off at the University of West Florida is at 2 p.m.
