Lady Choctaws Pull Away in Second Half to Beat PBA 5-0

CLINTON, Miss.--- The Mississippi College women's soccer team used four second half goals to beat Palm Beach Atlantic 5-0 on Sunday (Sept. 4). Erin Hederman and Kaylee Foster both scored two goals apiece in the match, while Beatrice Currie scored the other. MC improves to 3-1 on the year with the win, while PBA falls to 1-3-1.

Erin Hederman scored the only goal of the first half in the 15th minute. She had the ball just outside the box, turned a ripped a shot off the post and into the net.

The second half was a flurry of quick goals for the Lady Choctaws to put the match quickly away.

Foster got the action started quickly as she scored just a minute into the half. She had gotten past the PBA defense and took a shot, but it was saved. The rebound however fell to Foster and she put this one in the net to double MC's lead.

Currie then extended the lead to 3-0 on a fantastic free kick in the 57th minute. She had drawn the free kick after PBA's keeper came out of her box and collided with Currie who had gotten past the Sailfish backline. Currie curled the free kick into the near side of the net to extend MC's lead. The goal marked Currie's first of the season and the 12th of her career.

Foster then secured her brace just a minute later on a great team goal for the Lady Choctaws. Margherita Giubilato played a great throughball to Currie, who then played the ball across the front of the goal and Foster got on the end of it to put it home. The two goals were the first of the season for Foster, and were the 11th and 12th of her career.

Erin Hederman also locked up a brace in the second half. In the 66th minute, Giubilato played the ball to Hederman on the edge of the box and she was able to put it in past PBA's keeper to fully put the match away at 5-0. The two goals on the day marked the second and third of the season for Hederman. She now sits at 19 goals for her career.

Sara Maleski and the Lady Choctaw defense also kept a clean sheet in the match. Maleski made four saves to keep PBA out of the net.

Overall for the match, MC outshot PBA 19-6. MC also held a big 12-4 edge in shots on goal.

Next up, the Lady Choctaws will head into Gulf South Conference play next weekend. MC will host Auburn-Montgomery on Friday, and then host Montevallo on Sunday.
